Interviews of Participants
by Brian Cavanagh

Lillia Gerberg: "The race was fantastic, the weather was beautiful, the leaves were falling across our path and it was red and gold and orange, and a really really great time, so thanks for organizing it."

Brian Cavanagh: "How do you feel about the idea of having run/walk events like this in Sullivan County?"

Lillia G: "I think it's a fantastic idea. It's a way of bringing different members of the community together, being outside in this beautiful natural environment, getting to know one another, coming together with a love of running and a love of being outdoors."

Janelle Peterson: "I had a really fabulous day today. The colors of the leaves were gorgeous [friend Lillia laughing in background]. The wind was just right, and the sun kept just enough warmth in my body to [help me] hit the finish line. I think this is a fabulous event and I really look forward to seeing more of my fellow runners out here next year. Thanks a lot."

Ladies' winner, Ashley Baldwin-Hunter: "I thought the race was pretty good. I'm glad I finished because I haven't run for a week or two and I was a little worried, but it was a nice day, so it worked out good for us. I'm glad I did it."

Ashley's dad, Robert Hunter: "I think it's a great course... when you run it, you appreciate more of the natural beauty. It was nice to run. It was a great day temperature-wise."

Men's winner Tom Manza: "It was a real nice race, a real good course. A lot of effort went into the race- a lot of great volunteers out there. There were a lot more volunteers than you see in races that have been run year after year. This was great and the course was very challenging and a great day to run and I'm just glad to be able to win it, because Karl Bressler was here. I figured he was gonna be real tough and he was. He was right with me for the first two, three miles and he really wasn't very far behind at the end. He did a great job. You guys did great."

Karl Bressler: "I think it was a beautiful race, a perfect mixture in the course between challenging hills and flat downhill spaces where you can really turn it on. A great-run race, especially for the first year. Tom Manza, the winner, really put up a great performance. He ran a perfect race and made it impossible for me to get him, but I was glad to have the challenge to help me perform my best."

Sherm Golden: "This is a great turnout for the first annual Fallsburg 8k. I'm glad to be here to support the school and the community. Great job, guys."

S. Martinez: "It was a very good run. It was my first one, but definitely well worth it.

Dan Orlan: "Good race, happy to be here, good cause."

Aaron Butler: "Excellent job putting on the race for the first time. Plenty of water stops, no problems getting water, good traffic control, just a nice course, couple of good hills to make it nice and challenging. Defintely going  to be back next year."

Peter Briggs: "I'd just like to say it was a beautiful course, a very well organized race. I'm looking forward to making this an annual event on the race calendar."

Kim Nash: "I think it was a very nice course: not too hilly, yet challenging."

Toni Wilkerson (volunteer): "I think this race is very helpful to the ninth grade class and also to the runners. Thanks for a very good idea [Brian Miros']."

Dave Lesczyski: "It was fun and a good experience. I'm glad I did it."

Jon Nardi: (smiling) "I'm Jon Nardi, and I'm tired [Brian laughing]."

Brian C.: "So Jon, you ready to chow down in a few minutes?"

Jon: "Yeah!"

Dennis Toscano: "I thought the race was great: well organized, beautiful weather, plenty of snacks, the people were great."

Brian C.: "Thanks a lot Dennis. You've been super in supporting the races in Sullivan County here by volunteering and that's what makes these races such a success."

Brian C.: "Hi Doris Motl, congratulations on finishing! "

Doris Motl (kiddingly): "Well, I think there were many more uphills than there were down: I'm not sure [laughing]. I had a wonderful time.

Brian C.: "Ah, that's great. We'll try to put a big iron out there on the course next year and iron things out. At least 'Martha' would have us do this."

Lisa Amato-Golden: "It was a fun race."

Valerie Leszczyski: My son (David) is in 9th grade. That's why I'm here: to help support
his class. It was a little tough in the beginning. I finished last, but at least I finished.
I have diabetes and I'm just proud that I have legs to walk."

Brian C.: "That's quite an accomplishment. Valerie, do you find that the walking helps with the diabetes?

Valerie: "Oh definitely. I just have to push myself to make more time and get out there and do it. "

Brian C.: "Does it help with maintaining blood sugar, maintaining weight, feeling good?"

Valerie: "Well, when you're doing any kind of exercise, it always makes your blood sugars much better, so they always encourage you to exercise."

Debbie LaBounty: "I found it very challenging because there was a lot of uphill, but it was very pretty and very scenic. Usually, a lot of the walks are 5k's and this was an 8k walk. I thought this was good. More races should be like this.

Karen Perrello: "It was tiring but I plan on doing it again next year, and it was fun."

Brian C.: "Power to you. That was a long ways. What was the most you ever ran before this?"

Karen: "Maybe 3 or 4 miles."

Brian C.: "Five miles is a big step up."

Karen: "Yeah, I'll prepare a lot more for it next year."

Sheri Miros: "The race turned out to be very nice. It was a pleasurable experience and I'm looking forward to the next year."

Danielle: "I worked at the Run & Walk for Our Future 8k. It was really fun helping out. Me and my friend Jackie and my friend Jessica [Johnson] helped out with the water.

Jessica Johnson: "We were cheering... it was so fun. We had a lot of fun doing it, so we would come back definitely next year and do it."

Jackie Perito: "I want to congratulate everyone who won, and everyone who didn't win, but tried anyway. You did a very good job."
"I want to thank Mr Miros, Mr Cavanagh for being there, for helping out, and especially Mrs. Leis who donated a lot, and everyone else who donated, like Frankie & Johnny's."

Aubrey Tremper: "The class of 2006 did a really good job, we all had fun, and I hope to do it every year."
