April 6, 2008: The Race Around Briggs (7.2 mile)10:00am.
Run in the hills of Northern Dutchess County. About 8 years ago, we
started the CLUB TROPHY, which is basically a team competition with
teams of 15 or more. The purpose is to bring a friendly competitiveness
between clubs where it is not the fast guys, but the middle of the pack
runners who provide the winning edge. Running clubs are the best
organizing approach for the teams of this size. For the life of this
race, the two local running clubs (Mid Hudson Road Runners, and Onteora
Runners) have fielded teams, along with a hometown team from Milan
where the race is held. As Race Director, I would like to
personally invite the Sullivan Striders to join this club trophy
competition by fielding a team. The race is just under one hour from
the Newburgh Bridge, so it is a little bit of journey but it is a
pleasant drive and a great course. The course alone recommends this
run. But if we had some organized team presenting new challenges for
the regulars, it would simply add to the enjoyment of the day.
