Sunday July 25, 2010: O&W Rails to Trails Race 9:00am race start time professionally timed by Fast Finishes. Registration at Mountaindale Firehouse, (Google Locator) Mountaindale, NY. The Striders are involved with the beautification project of the O&W Rail Trail, a Sullivan Renaissance Project. Registration is $17.00 pre registered or $20.00 day of the race. Directions: Route 17 (either East or West bound) take Exit 112 – whether or not you traveled East or West Bound – you would make a left at the end of either ramp – come to a T-Intersection (Old 17) make a left and travel approx. 1.3 miles and make a right onto County Route 56 – take that all the way (7.5 miles) until you come to a T-intersection with a traffic light (Anderman Oil will be right in front of you)– make a right (Main drag through Mt. Dale) then make your first left (Post Hill Road) About 100 feet on the left is where we’ll be! You can also get there via Woodridge.

Saturday July 17, 2010: 4th Annual ORC 2.5 Mile Walk Party 9:45am at Fancher-Davidge Park - Lake Avenue - Middletown, NY. Thursday July 15, 2010: Sullivan Striders Run/Walk - Alternate Location Come run some trails at Sams Point on Thursday July 15th. We will meet at 6:00. Lots of breath taking views of the Gunks. All are welcome back to Macs & Abbys afterwards for food & good times. Directions from Sullivan County; take exit 112, go through Wurtsboro & at the top of the hill go left on Horton Rd (right past where you come out from the Roosa Gap Run) Take Horton Rd. to stop sign & turn left on Roosa Gap Rd. 3 1/2 miles to y in the road- bear left. At stop sign right on Pleasant valley Rd. Follow to Rt 52 (about 1½ miles). Left on 52. Go about 2 miles & left on Cragsmoor Rd. Follow signs to sams Point (about 2½ miles). Tuesday July 13, 2010: The Sullivan Renaissance O&W Rail Trail project. There is a work session scheduled from 7:00-8:30 p.m. This is for the Renaissance plantings around the old train station (now a Welcome Center) on Post Hill Road, Mountaindale, NY (directly across the street from the Mountaindale Post Office). Please bring your water, work gloves, any tools, shovels, rakes, gardening equipment you may have for your use to make your work session easier. We will be planting shrubs and trees that were provided by the Manza Family Farm (owned and operated by two of the club’s founding members, Tom and Maryann Manza) who continue to support the Sullivan Renaissance projects.
Thursday July 8, 2010: Sullivan Striders Run/Walk - Alternate Location With the Monster 10K/5K race fast approaching (August 1st), we’ve had some requests for a training run on the course. Soooooo, this week’s run we will do just that. We will meet in the Pizza Hut parking lot (by the starting line for the Monster) on South Main St., Monticello, NY (Bing), between 5:30-5:45 and take off from there. Make sure you bring some water with you especially if it’s brutal hot that day. As most of you know, the race is appropriately named due to the difficulty of the course.

Thursday July 1, 2010: Annual Striders Alternate Run/Walk from Kelly's Place 6:00pm Claryville, NY. Another year to do this much anticipated run, walk & get together. Everyone needs to come to this if for nothing more than the beauty of the area. If you want to follow a few people up from Liberty, get off at westbound exit 100A. Go to the end of the ramp and we will wait in that parking lot from 5:30-5:40pm. Carpooling from there will be possible. Bring a snack, beverage or some grated cheese(You never know)! Directions:

Take Rt. 17 West to exit 100A. Turn right onto Rt. 55 towards Grahamsville, about 10 miles. Opposite Zanetti's garage, turn left onto rhe Claryville Rd. (the sign says to Claryville) Rt 19.

Go about 4 or 5 miles - church on the right with a fish on the steeple top - across is gravel spot - meet there - just ahead is road to Frost Valley and Big Indian - we'll be running & walking there.
Afterwards, we'll follow Kelly to her house for some food and fellowship. From her house to return home, go out driveway, turn right onto Hunter Rd. - at T, turn right onto the Claryville Rd. At the botttom of the hill - a T - turn right onto Rt 55 (west to Liberty). About 10 miles, take exit to Rt 17 East. (left hand turn sends you east towards Grahamsville, NY)

Thursday June 17, 2010: Annual Bag Stuffing & Finish Line Litter Pluck for RHR&R Meet at 5:00pm at the Frontier lower entrance to help race director Suzie Loughlin do the bag stuffing for RHR&R. This is an event unto itself and we want to see all Striders there! Directly following the bag stuffing we will make sure the finish line area is litter-free before going out for our weekly run.

Next to Fallsburg Central School grounds on Town of Fallsburg land, we have succeeded in opening up a 3-6 foot wide path through about 4,000 feet of wooded land on a hillside. This is part of the process of building a challenging 1.55 mile, two loop cross country course. After seeing fellow Striders member Patty Fassetta's success in creating a new x-c course in Chester with Warwick Coach Tim St. Lawrence's feedback, we are excited about the prospects for another x-c course in the region. Thursday June 9, 2009: Alternate Striders Club Run from Holiday Mt. Edwards Rd - Bridgeville, NY. This event was to be at Kelly's but due to circumstances left in God's hands, we have rescheduled Kelly's for July 1st. During the Summer we meet the first Thursday (this month is different)of each month at Holiday Mt. parking lot at 5:30pm and take off at 5:45pm. Distances vary from 3K(USATF certified) to 4 or 5 miles on one beautiful road along the famous Neversink River Google Map for Holiday Mt. Thursday May 20, 2010: Sullivan Striders Group Run 5:45pm run time. This weeks run will be on the O&W Rail Trail heading out from Mountaindale to get a “feel” for the trail. As the Strider’s are involved with the beautification project of the O&W Rail Trail through the Sullivan Renaissance. We are planning a fundraiser run/walk event to help raise money for this project that will be held on July 25th, details to follow) If anyone wants to follow Dennis out, he will be leaving by 5:25pm from Frontier Insurance Corp. Sunday May 16, 2010: Safe Harbors 4th Annual Newburgh Run 1 Mile & 5K; USATF Certified (Guaranteed Accurate) Course #'s NY08021JG (Mile) and NY08020JG (5K) for both courses north of Broadway along Grand St. You can do both the Mile & 5K! Newburgh, NY, One mile Run/Walk starts at 8:30am and the 5K Run/Walk starts at 9:00am. Registration for both races is from 7:30-8:15am. The course runs north on Montgomery Street with unbelievable views of the Hudson River and great architecture of the beautiful old homes of the historic district, all the way to under the Newburgh Beacon Bridge, turning around, eventually coming south on Grand Street, to end in front of the Ritz theater at 111 Broadway! Saturday May 15, 2010: Become a Trail Builder and experience the camaraderie of building a new cross country trail with Brian Cavanagh and others who love to get outside, 9:00 am to 10:00 am. Park at Fallsburg Central School, build trail on Town of Fallsburg land, go to Stewart's for refreshments after. See link above for directions and all other details. Other trail building session will be on Saturday May 22 at same time. Every half hour moves the project forward! Previously, over the span of a year, a total of seventy-nine Trail Builders put in over seven hundred people-hours to clear eleven miles of trails in the Neversink Gorge, organized by Brian. The cross country trail we are creating will be less than 5,000 feet (less than a mile), and we will be doing it a chunk at a time. It will connect with Fallsburg Central School grounds to create a challenging 1.55 mile, two loop cross country course.

Saturday May 8, 2010: Become a Trail Builder and experience the camaraderie of building a new cross country trail with Brian Cavanagh and others who love to get outside, 9:00 am to 10:00 am. Previously, over the span of a year, a total of seventy-nine Trail Builders put in over seven hundred people-hours to clear eleven miles of trails in the Neversink Gorge, organized by Brian. The cross country trail we are creating will be less than 5,000 feet (less than a mile), and we will be doing it a chunk at a time. It will connect with Fallsburg Central School grounds to create a challenging 1.55 mile, two loop cross country course.

Sunday April 18, 2010: Earth Day Hike Join the Delaware Highlands Conservancy on the Ten Mile River Property near Narrowsburg, NY from 9:30am-12:30pm. Learn about all the property has to offer-from the fascinating history to the ecology of the area.
The walk will be led by Conservancy staff and a local expert who will hike with you on the Tusten Mountain trail, located along the Delaware River and maintained by the National Park Service. Make sure you wear comfortable clothing, sturdy shoes and bring drinking water since the hike will be moderately strenuous and will last approximately 3 hours.
This walk is free and open to the public, but prior registration is required. After the run, Kim will present a check for $100 from the Sullivan Striders for a fundraiser for Haitians suffering with the multiple earthquakes and devestation happening down there. Wednesday December 23rd, 2009 Alternate Striders Run/Walk Andrew Kalter is hosting a run/walk from his house just outside of South Fallsburg. If you can make it, Andrew has extended an invitation to gather in the hot tub (iPod & DVD compatible) directly following the workout. Everyone will meet at the Dunkin Donuts in Monticello, NY and leaving for Andrew's at 5:30. We'll be doing some cross country trails on the beautiful SCCC campus this Thursday. Coach Bob Harris who got special permission for Striders to run on their course will be leading us on this relaxing 3-4 miler. We will either meet at the field house at 5:45 for a 5:50-6:00pm departure or if you don't know exactly how to get there, meet Dennis at Dunkin Donuts of Monticello at 5:30pm and ride out from there. Thursday September 24, 2009: Alternate Sullivan Striders Run /Walk Run/Walk from the parking lot at TD BankNorth in Monticello, NY and hopefully doing Cold Spring Road to the trail off of Cantrell Road. Andrew will be leading us on this relaxing 7 miler. If you aren't up to the whole distance, there are shorter courses. We gather at 5:30 in the run/walk will start at 5:45pm prompt with the longer distance. Afterwards, join us for Striders meeting where we can kick back, relax and eat some good food from Vino's.
Sunday September 20, 2009: The Mid-Hudson Road Runners Club presents the 31st Annual Dutchess County Classic Half Marathon, 5k & Childrens' 1 Mile, 8:30 am, Town of Wappingers Recreation Area, Robinson Lane, Wappingers Falls, NY. James C Burns was a local scout master in Milford, PA who passed away in 2001. His family initiated this event to raise money for a scholarship awarded each year to a deserving high school senior. In 2007, two $1000 scholarships were given out. Since James and his son are both veterans, there is also a contribution to The Wounded Warrior Project. Thursday August 20, 2009: Striders Alternative Run/Walk 5:45pm fun/walk hosted by Tom and Maryann Manza and running from their home on old Route 17, a little past Monticello Raceway. Tom will take us on some nice trails where Cooper will be leading the pack with Tom. For anyone that doesn't know how to get to Tom's house, I (Dennis) will wait by The Bean Bag across from Tilly's Diner in Monticello until 5:30pm and we will head out to the Manza's from there for our 5:45pm run/walk. A race to benefit Locust Grove, the Samuel Morse Historic Site. The scenic, all-trail course winds along carriage roads overlooking the Hudson.
