Notes about accuracy:
The
routes above which are listed to
hundredths and thousandths of a mile are
Jones-Oerth device
measured, but not USATF certified. Routes listed to tenths of a mile
are electronic cyclometer measured, are approximately plus or minus one
tenth, are for training purposes, as they are not
measured by Jones-Oerth device.
Cyclists, take note: Number of
decimal places in
mileage indicates degree of accuracy for these routes. Routes listed to
three decimal places would meet the standard for accuracy for USA
Cycling Time Trials. Those were measured after using the calibration
route on Old
Rt 17 near the Thompson / Mamakating border between Rock Hill &
Masten Lake. Electronically measured routes (EM)
can be assumed to be within approximately
five percent degree of accuracy. There are also calibration routes on Airport
Rd near White Lake
and near Claryville
that you can test your cyclometer on. All calibration routes are 400
meters. Go 7' 8" beyond this to get 0.250 miles. These courses have
been used to get national certifications of accuracy for running races
in the region. A similar standard applies to time trials in bike racing.
