RRCA insurance. There was a lapse in coverage which Nancy Warth
took care of. Secured insurance binders for the club, Interclub
and Wurtsboro Mt. 30K. In the process learned that, as we are a
not-for-profit club, we automatically qualify for 501C status through
RRCA. It is free with membership to RRCA. R4 sponsorship
was discussed and will discuss at next month’s meeting as to the amount
of donation. Andrew Kalter discussed socks with our logo and club
colors on them. Brought in a sample pair from his cycling
club. Everyone liked them and Myriam may want them for the 30K in
2011.

Meeting Minutes Minutes of
the January 28, 2010
Officers Present:
Kim Klemen, Nancy Figueroa, Patricia Fassetta, Kim Flynn, Nancy Warth
19 other members present.
Membership Report
– Myriam Loor gave report - At year end 2009 we had 159
members, to date 73 have renewed their membership for 2010.
Treasurer’s Report
– Kim Flynn presented a detailed journal report of the expense activity
of 2009 through to the present. The balance of the Scholarship
account is $*,*** and the balance of the Operations account is
$*,***. It was reported that Harold Johnson attended the meeting
to transfer control of the accounts from the outgoing Treasurer, Roger
Hourihan, to the incoming Treasure, Kim Flynn as a non-officer
witness. He will also be doing an audit of the books to start the
new term.
Vice President’s Report
– Patricia Fassetta updated everyone on the research she is doing with
regards to purchasing clothing for the Striders such as singlets,
shorts, tops etc. Kim Flynn said she has always had good luck
with Everyday Apparel and Myriam Loor reported she has always had good
luck with Screen Gems – so Patricia has some more sources to
research.
Secretary’s Report
- submitted mail issues and gave Kim Flynn any checks that had come in.
Gave Myriam all membership renewals that had come in and any Wurtsboro
30k applications.
Old Business – Kim
Klemen, Nancy Figueroa and Kim Flynn presented final numbers on 2009
Falling Colors Race. Income $*,*** ($*,*** donations, $*,*** race
fees), expenses $*,*** giving profit of $*,*** for the 2010 Scholarship
Awards. There was some discussion of taking 10% of the profits
for club for operating expenses but since we really don’t have a need
at this time no vote was taken and this issue will be reviewed again in
May. A couple of years ago it was voted upon that all profits
from the Falling Colors race will go to scholarships so as long as we
have operating dollars, which we received from the Wurtsboro 30K, we
should have no need to take money from the scholarship fund for
expenses.
Interclub has been changed to April 25, 2010 and is being hosted this
year by the Striders. Kim K. is making arrangements to reserve the
Emerald Green Entertainium so the Striders will have to cover the cost
of renting the facility – usually $75. That should be the only
expense of the race. The $5 fee charged usually is given to a
local charity.
Bill Norton spoke on the Roosa Gap race that’s held each September
asking Striders for help with regards to organizing this event.
The Striders have agreed to assist in this venture.
New Business – Kim
K. has reviewed the current by-laws and felt they are very vague and
would like to set up a committee to review and update these by-laws
during the upcoming year. No action was taken at this time.
There was a vote on club contributions for mixers and it was voted that
the club would cover the cost of the food but not of any drinks.
Tom Manza and John Flynn gave an update on the Sullivan Renaissance
Program meetings that they have attended with the purpose of seeing if
there was anything the Striders could provide to the program. The
one project that would be of interest to the runners is the Rail Trail
from Liberty to Wurtsboro (26 miles) that is being considered but at
this stage the project is above our abilities. Should there be a
need at some point for land clearing or anything along those lines the
Striders will lend a hand. For now we’re just lending our name
for their use in researching grant opportunities.
Speakers – the
evening’s speaker was Frank Colella, fellow Strider and Orange Runners
Club member who gave an overview of injuries runners are prone to and
recommended cures. From Plantar Fasciitis to ingrown toe
nails and everything in between –to summarize would never give the
presentation justice. Entertaining to say the least and very
informative. He also gave a summary on his running history from
his high school days to the present. A great turnout, a great
meeting and the new team is off to a great start.
